Old & New Church

The story of how the oldest church in Delft was founded takes us right back to the dark days of the early Middle Ages. Around 1050, a tuff stone church of around 12 by 30 metres was probably already standing amid the settlements along the 'Delf'.

The early history of the New Church takes us back to an extraordinary story from 1351. The eccentric beggar Symon was sitting in his usual spot on the Markt, and was given something to eat by a Jan Col. Nobody could have predicted what would happen next…
